Brownfield - c.1876
Here Brownfield have used a crane design to great effect and this is a particularly fine gilded example in excellent condition. Other plainer examples of this shape exist but the gilt version is the rarest.
Dr Christopher Dresser is one of the most iconic designers of the 19th century who’s Japonism themes, especially of cranes, became and remain iconic.
He worked with a number of different firms across metalware, ceramics and furniture, but it is perhaps his work with Minton and their Staffordshire contemporaries that are most well known within the ceramics field.
