Coalport jewelled two handled bowl

This two handled jewelled bowl is decorated on all four sides by hand painted landscapes, slightly raised up to give the impression of enamelled plaques.
The cobalt ground is then studded with jewelling in blue, white and red, all of which is surrounded with both raised and flat gilding. The whole impression creates a rich and jewel like object, redolent of the kunstkammer objects of the 17th century.
 
Coalport were famous for such intricate jewelled wares and specialised in mixing them with their superb landscape painting.
