A superb pair of Minton dessert plates with rich raised gilding and pâte-sur-pâte roundels of classical heads by Alboin Birks.
Pâte-sur-pâte is the highly complex and skilled technique of applying layers of liquid clay slip on top of each other before firing and then tooling them to resemble cameos. The application of such cameos to bone china was even more complex and therefore such pieces as this are scarce.
